Jack Reagan is a slobbish, old style cop whose unsubtle methods usually get results,to the annoyance of internal affairs officer Lewis, who would be even more annoyed if he knew that Reagan was having an affair with his young wife, policewoman Nancy. After Reagan disobeys orders and a shoot-out in central London following a bank hold-up ends in carnage he is stripped of office and briefly imprisoned. However, thanks to the loyalty of his young protege George Carter and a little string pulling from his superior Frank Haskins Reagan is released to bring down the villains in a gun battle at Gravesend marina, ensuring the continued existence of his department – the Sweeney.

Los Angeles Times - by Kenneth Turan
Don't look for The Sweeney to win any awards. It's not going to, not even close. But that doesn't stop it from being a briskly involving British crime entertainment of the old school. You've seen the type, and more than once, but the genre still has enough juice to take us for a ride. more

The movie has a certain integrity and creates an interesting atmosphere, largely thanks to the soundtrack, of all things, which gives most moments a dreamy undertone. more

The A.V. Club - by Sam Adams
From its lone-wolf mythology to the high, pealing guitar wails in its score, The Sweeney plays like a forgotten ’80s action movie recently discovered in a dusty vault. A treat, perhaps, for those who prefer their cop thrillers pre-meta, but tiresomely plodding for everyone else. more

The Sweeney—a new British police drama—feels a lot like an American-made cop movie circa 1990. more

Time Out New York - by David Fear
Fans of the gritty, era-defining precinct drama will bristle at how the program's realism has been replaced by a generic Tinseltown U.K. slickness. But regardless of whether you’re a longtime devotee or not, you’ll be left saying, “This is The Sweeney? I’ve been rooked.” more

Clichés abound, even in the look of the film, which toggles between post-Ritchie crime-violence burlesque and sleek, Nolanesque faux-grandeur. more

Not bad watch if you don’t know the Sweeney series from the 70-80′s. The character Carter i thought was far to young looking which kinda ruined my experience watching the movie. Hayley Atwell should have showed more flesh lol. Winstone walking down the prison was exactly how he did it in Scum – brought back memories. 7.5/10

Ray Winstone in sex scenes with Hayley Atwell require a bigger suspension of disbelief than the plot! This is an oddly cold film in which the transposition of old-world ‘geezer’ type coppers into snazzy, minimalist surroundings,(and into the romantic lives of seemingly modern career-women), simply doesn’t work. That said, it’s not bad…as watchable as it is as instantly forgettable. As of 11/11/12, the sockshare and putlocker links seem to be timing out within minutes of playing making it necessary to repeatedly refresh, (often for only a few more minutes of play) so, it might be better to choose vidx or another which, though more slowly streaming, seem to be more stable.
