Cine Latino: La Diva de la Banda Jenni Rivera Keeps It Real in ‘Filly Brown’ (Exclusive Clip)

You’ve probably heard a lot about the indie film, Filly Brown, last year because the star, Jenni Rivera who was also a Mexican-American singer, passed away.  This Friday, Filly Brown will be showing in limited theaters.  It stars Gina Rodriguez, Lou Diamond Phillips and Edward James Olmos, who produced the film.  Filly is about a young hip-hop artist who deals with the pain of having an incarcerated drug-addict mother while trying to make something of herself as a rap artist.

The official synopsis:  Majo Tonorio, also known as, ‘Filly Brown’ is a young hip-hop artist from Los Angeles who loves rapping.  Her mother is in prison due to her drug addiction and her father struggles to provide for his family.  Majo knows that a record deal will be her family’s big break but when a record producer offers her a chance to make it big, she is faced with forgetting who she is as well as the friends who helped her get on top.
