Dwayne Johnson Says a Luke Hobbs Spinoff Film Could Come Between FAST & FURIOUS 6 and 7

When Dwayne Johnson first joined Justin Lin’s sequel Fast Five, his character, Luke Hobbs evolved into something much bigger than anyone expected.  There’s been talk of his character getting his own spinoff film.  In 2011, producer (Neal Mortiz) and Johnson agreed on getting a script together for the Hobbs movie.  Johnson plays the role of one of the main characters in this year’s Fast & Furious 6 as well as Vin Diesel.  Diesel’s grand theft auto crew helps Johnson battle a rival team of criminals in Europe in return for Diesel and Co.’s full pardons.  Johnson said that the Hobbs movie might conflict with Fast & Furious 6 as well as the inevitable Fast & Furious 7.

Because Fast Five was such a success, there was speculation that Fast & Furious 6 and might be shot back-to-back because the storyline is too detailed to explain in just one movie.  A source tells us that at the ending of Fast & Furious 6 two films are connected, but now theres a chance that a Luke Hobbs movie will be shown before we see Fast & Furious 7.  Here is what Johnson had to say about the prospect:

“[We could see the Hobbs movie] possibly after this one, after the next one.  Possibly.  I’m not quite too sure, I know that’s the goal and we continue to build that character and have him take shape.  But yes, I can’t wait.”

Obviously nothing is set in stone at the moment but it’s safe to say that a Hobbs film will probably be a standalone film and is still very much part of the plan for the Fast & Furious franchise.  Fast & Furious is released in theaters on May 24th.
