Man Of Steel releases a bunch of new images

[Click on any image to see it in hi-res] Man Of Steel has released a huge stack of new images online. Some of the stills from Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot have been released online previously, but there are plenty of fresh stills worth glimpsing at. For starters, there a few detailing Clark’s home life in Smallville with the Kents, Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan (Kevin Costner). Henry Cavill cuts a particulary dashing figure strolling through the idyllic cornfields. Plus, there are new looks at Supes’ Kryptonian birth parents (played by Russell Crowe and Ayelet Zurer). And Michael Shannon in full-on menacing mode as General Zod, Antje Traue rocks a cool space helmet as Faora, and Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White looks mightily concerned. Perhaps most impressive of all is Amy Adams’ Lois Lane, who earns her ‘intrepid reporter’ stripes in a variety of different guises. New TV spot for World War Z: watch now

World War Z has released a new TV spot online, focusing upon the widespread mayhem caused by the outbreak of a global zombie pandemic. At just 18 seconds, the new spot is short and sweet, condensing some of the film’s more spectacularly eye-catching scenes into its brief run-time. Flaming wreckage, fallen cities, hordes of scrambling zombies… all are present and correct, as Brad Pitt’s UN worker learns exactly what the planet is up against. Take a look at the new spot, below: The new film will see Pitt’s character forced to leave his family as he embarks upon a globe-trotting mission to try and eradicate the pandemic, before all of humanity is claimed. No pressure then… Directed by Marc Forster and co-starring Mireille Enos, Matthew Fox and James Badge Dale, World War Z will open in the UK on 21 June 2013. Read our World War Z review.

Aubrey Plaza stars in raunchy new red-band trailer for The To-Do List: watch now

The To-Do List has released a hilarious new red-band trailer online, in which Aubrey Plaza attempts to shed her virginity with predictably cringe-inducing results. Plaza plays a high-school overachiever who can’t quite get her head around the various pitfalls of college sex, despite the reams of “advice” given to her by sister Rachel Bilson. From what we’ve seen so far, this could be the film that reinvigorates the teen sex comedy, with a whip-smart script to match all the sexual embarrassment… Take a look at the new trailer, below: Being big fans of Parks And Recreation, we’re excited to see Plaza get her own starring vehicle, while the supporting cast is pretty special too. Nice to see Bill Hader doing his level best to steal every scene he appears in… Written and directed by Maggie Carey and co-starring Alia Shawkat, Andy Samberg, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Gregg, The To-Do List opens in the US on 26 July 2013, with a UK date to be confirmed.

New clip from Man Of Steel: watch now

Man Of Steel has released a new clip online, focusing upon goings-on at The Daily Planet, where Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White seems to rule with an iron fist. The new clip sees Lois Lane (Amy Adams) getting a dressing down from her editor, who isn’t best pleased about a story she’s written. We don’t actually learn why said story was so controversial, but we’d put money on it having something to do with a certain super-powered Kryptonian… Take a look at the new clip, below… We haven’t seen much of Fishburne in the promotional material so far, so it’s nice to see him get the chance to flex his muscles here. Alongside all the super-powered shenanigans, it looks like there will be a solid core of character dynamics for audiences to get their teeth into… Directed by Zack Snyder and co-starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon and Russell Crowe, Man Of Steel opens in the UK on 14 June 2013.

Hugh Jackman talks problems with X-Men Origins

From what we’ve seen so far of James Mangold’s The Wolverine, it looks less a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and more a total reboot of the character. That shift in tone is at least partially down to the muted reaction the previous film was met with, a sense of disappointment that was shared by Hugh Jackman himself. “We could have done better,” says Jackman. “Somehow the first Wolverine movie ended up looking like the fourth X-Men, just with different characters. I left unsure if we’d achieved our goal, which was to make sure people understood my character.” With Wolverine also scheduled to appear in X-Men: Days Of Future Past, does Jackman see himself continuing in the role for some time to come? “I wasn’t even sure after [X-Men Origins: Wolverine] if I would do another,” muses the star. “I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason.” The Wolverine opens in the UK on 26 July 2013.

Henry Cavill talks Justice League

With Man Of Steel set to swoop into cinemas later this month, speculation is already beginning to build as to the future of the character, and how he might fit in to a potential Justice League movie. Henry Cavill has been speaking about the possibility of a DC super-team-up, and speculates as to how such a movie might eventually come about. “Well, if any of these things were to happen,” says Cavill, “which I don’t know if they are, I don’t know if they’ve even been spoken about – I think, ultimately, a Justice League movie could be fun, but to get to that stage, you have to do other movies in between. “You can’t just suddenly have a world full of gods when one god has just arrived. So, how do you get to that stage? I think a ‘Batman / Superman’ movie would be great because it brings that world together.” “Whether they’re going to let that happen, I don’t know. But a sequel to continue [Man of Steel] would certainly be amazing… and maybe start introducing some other things. Which of those comes next? I don’t know.” Man Of Steel opens in the UK on June 14th.

DC Comics’ Fables lands a director for big-screen adaptation

DC Comics is set to expand its movie universe, following the announcement that long-running comic-book series Fables is to become a feature film. The comic-book follows a band of famous figures from fairy-tale lore, including Snow White, Prince Charming and the Big Bad Wolf, who have been ejected from their fantasy land, only to wash up in present-day New York. Harry Potter producer David Heyman is developing the project, with Nikolaj Arcel (he of A Royal Affair) set to fill the director’s chair. Jeremy Slater will be adapting the script from Bill Willingham’s source material. Fables nearly made its way to the silver screen back in 2004, when Warner attempted to develop an adaptation with The Jim Henson Company, only for the project to stall before a script could be drafted. ABC were also keen to adapt the comic as a TV series in 2008, but that too collapsed at an early stage. Fingers crossed this new endeavour enjoys better fortune…

Evangeline Lilly wields a bow in a new image from The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has revealed new look at Evangeline Lilly’s woodland Elf Tauriel, via EW.com. The new still shows her poised and ready for action, taking aim with a bow and arrow, a weapon that’s re-emerged as something of a cinematic staple of late. Of her character, Lilly tells EW that, “She’s slightly reckless and totally ruthless and doesn’t hesitate to kill.” We caught up with Lilly a while back, and she told us about playing a grittier type of Elf. The character is 600 years old (pretty young in Elf years), and is an entirely new creation, looking to add some gender balance to Tolkien’s male-centric Middle-earth adventure. First full trailer for Insidious: Chapter 2: watch now

The first trailer has landed online for horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 2, and as you might have hoped, it’s not for the faint of heart. The new film reunites Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as the married couple who spent the last film stalked by various ghouls and ghosts from an astral dimension. You’re best going into the new trailer knowing as little as possible, so we won’t spoil any of the scares ahead. Except to say that there are a few of them, and they genuinely put the wind up us… Take a look, below… Watching through your fingers? Ahem, no, us neither. Honest. In any case, it certainly looks a class above your typical cookie-cutter horror sequel. Directed by James Wan from a script by Leigh Whannell, and co-starring Barbara Hershey, Insidious: Chapter 2 will open in the US on 13 September 2013, with a UK date to be confirmed.

Joss Whedon talks female superheroes

Having recently announced that Scarlet Witch will be among the new characters included in The Avengers 2, Joss Whedon has been talking about the general lack of female superheroes on the big screen. “Toymakers will tell you they won’t sell enough,” says Whedon, “and movie people will point to the two terrible superheroine movies that were made and say, ‘You see? It can’t be done.’ It’s stupid, and I’m hoping The Hunger Games will lead to a paradigm shift.” “It’s frustrating to me that I don’t see anybody developing one of these movies. It actually pisses me off. My daughter watched The Avengers and was like, ‘My favourite characters were the Black Widow and Maria Hill,’ and I thought, ‘Yeah, of course they were.’” Meanwhile, Whedon has also commented on Robert Downey Jr.’s future within the Marvel universe, claiming that he has every intention of including him in Avengers 2. “He is Iron Man,” says Whedon. “He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond. I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. I don’t think it’s in my interest, Marvel’s interest, or his interest, and I think everything will be fine. ” “I know that this is Hollywood and you roll with things. You have to be ready for the unexpected. But I loved working with Robert, and everybody knows he embodied that role in a way no one else can.” The Avengers 2 will open in the UK on 1 May 2015.
