Hayley Atwell Hints at Possible Peggy Carter Marvel One Shot at Comic-Con; Talks CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel and TOMB RAIDER
Production is currently processing on Marvel’s Captain America sequel. At first it was thought that Hayley Atwell‘s Peggy Carter- who played an important role in the first film- wouldn’t be showing her face in The Winter Soldier. We are informed that Atwell will be back for the follow-up. The Winter Soldier takes place in the present, and one may think that Atwell will probably be downgraded to flashback sequences or will be in old age makeup. Whichever way you may take it, Peggy Carter will no longer be an important character in the film.
Atwell recently spoke about Captain America and its sequel, releasing information that Marvel has something planned that will show what Peggy’s reason for being. She also addressed the online campaign for her to star in the Tomb Raider reboot.
Here is an interview:
Speaking with The Age, Atwell revealed that Marvel has taken steps to ensure that Peggy gets her day in the sun:
“There’s been an online campaign for Peggy to be featured. People really liked her. So Marvel have made sure that as part of Comic-Con there will be a little kind of snapshot as to what Peggy’s actually really capable of, which was finished here and which was great fun. Hopefully, it will lead to other things.”
The actress also spoke a bit about returning for The Winter Soldier, but she understandably couldn’t reveal much:“They’re so tight, the Marvel family, and private, Atwell told Fairfax. “I can say that I am involved in some way in the second one. Just know that it’s not me being cryptic, it’s Marvel. They can just as easily kill me off if I threaten to tell the story before it’s time. They’re keeping it all under wraps.”
Atwell said that she wouldn’t be opposed to a Peggy Carter spinoff film, and it sounds like she’s actually quite fond of the idea:“I’d revisit Peggy again. She’s pretty uptight. I’d like to, if I get a spin-off, definitely add a bit of humour in there. She’s very British. Very uptight. Let’s hope if she gets a spin-off it’s modern day, so she can relax a little bit, let go of the uniform.”
Finally, with a new Tomb Raider movie in the works at MGM, some fans have already pegged Atwell as the best choice to play Lara Croft. Atwell is aware of the fan support and sounds pretty game to fill those shoes:“There’s also some kind of online campaign for me to do Tomb Raider Reborn, which I know has just come out as a computer game. MGM have the rights to make it into a film, which would be fantastic to do because I’d get to spend a year of my life training hard and pick up all sorts of fantastic fun skills.”
Captain America: The Winter Soldierscreenwriters opens on April 4, 2014.
