AFTER EARTH Moved Up to May 31st Release Date

Sony is changing the release date for M. Night Shyamalan‘s sci-fi film, After Earth.  The film will open a week earlier than the original date.  It was set for June 7th but is now set for May 31st.  The pic only faced the comedy The Internship on its original release date, but Man of Steel is supposed to open on June 14th.  Sony is trying to give After Earth a bit more breathing room before Superman comes in and dominates the box office.  By the looks of it, Man of Steel seems to be getting a lot of positive feedback based on trailers and word of mouth, therefore, the box office will be dominated.

After Earth, which stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith as father and son who are stranded on a deadly island, opens opposite the magician action/adventure pic Now You See me and Universal’s horror film, The Purge starring Ethan Hawke.
