Max Landis appears to have parted ways with Fox on forthcoming super-sequel Chronicle 2, with the young screenwriter revealing that the film is moving forward without him. Having penned the script for the original film, which scored $127 million globally on a $12 million budget, Landis had initially been rehired by Fox to write the sequel. However, rumours came to light that the studio were unhappy with Landis’ script, and now the writer has revealed he’s been off the project for a couple of months. “Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series,” explains Landis. “The truth is, when you’re successful as a screenwriter, you have to just take everything in stride. That’s like more than half the job.” “Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It’s a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings. They hired new writers on it. I’m sure they’ll announce soon.” All of which seems a bit of a shame, since it was Landis’ pin-sharp script that was one of the primary pleasures of the orginal. With Landis having revealed these creative differences, expect a clarification from Fox on this one sooner rather than later…
