The aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos, but an ancient race led by Malekith returns to destroy the universe. Thor must fight to save us all.
Disney has released new images from director Alan Taylor‘S (Games of Thrones) sequel Thor: The Dark World. We’ll finally get to see the footage from the film tomorrow when the trailer is released, but these images will suffice for now. Natalie Portman plays Jane, and Jane joins Thor in Asgard in the film. They have to adjust to life in the realm.
The film also stars Tom Hiddleston, Christopher Eccleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins. Thor: The Dark World opens in 3D on November 8th.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed that the film will explore a bit of a love triangle with Portman’s Jane and Jaimie Alexander’s warrior goddess Sif:
“It’s superhero action, but it’s the familiar territory of a love triangle where the parents think your girlfriend is wrong for you,” says Feige. “That’s how the best of these movies work.”
Hemsworth noted that Thor must turn to an unlikely source for help when squaring off against Dark Elf Malekith, played by Christopher Eccleston, as he seeks out his incarcerated brother Loki:
“Needing Loki’s help turns everything on its head,” says Hemsworth. “And it allows us to explore the underlying complexities of their relationship. It really ends up being a kind of chess match.”
Even though he appeared to be thwarted once and for all in The Avengers, it certainly sounds like Loki will be sticking around in the Marvel universe for some time.
