RoboCop Remake Signs Michael Keaton
It appears that RoboCop has finally gotten the full green light to begin filming now that the entire cast has come together. It has been announced that Michael Keaton is the latest to join the cast of the reboot. Keaton will play the role of the CEO of a corporation that builds RoboCop and he is the final major piece of the cast. The role he is taking on is the same one that House star Hugh Laurie was in the running for, as well as Clive Owen. Filming is set to start in September and the movie will release in August of 2013.
MGM released the announcement and director Padilha had this to say: “Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place,” said Padilha. “We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209′s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.”
RoboCop was a cult classic back in the eighties and is about a police officer that returns to the streets after being killed as a cyborg. The cyborg is haunted by underlying memories. The movie was popular in part because of the deadpan dialogue that RoboCop delivered as he dispatched with the bad guys one by one. It has been the target for rumored remakes for years now.
RoboCop stars Keaton as well as Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Joel Kinnaman, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jennifer Ehle, Michael Kenneth Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and WBBrown II. It appears that MGM is pulling out all the stops to make this movie as big as possible. The buzz surrounding it’s release is on par with other blockbusters of the summer. It is currently one of the front runners to dominate the summer of 2013.
