Samuel L. Jackson signs on for Stephen King’s Cell
Samuel L. Jackson has signed on for the latest Stephen King adaptation making its way to the big screen, with Variety reporting the actor will star opposite John Cusack in Cell. The new film will mark the second time the pair have worked together on a King story, having previously co-starred in hotel-set chiller 1408. Cell has been adapted by King himself from the author’s 2006 novel, in which an event known as “the pulse” transforms anyone using a mobile phone at that moment into a bloodthirsty nutjob, known collectively as the “crazies”. Cusack will play the hero of the piece, comic-book artist Clayton Riddell, while Jackson will play his fellow survivor, Tom McCourt, both of whom are searching for the former’s lost son. Directed by Tod ‘Kip’ Williams and produced by 1408 alumnus Richard Saperstein, production is set to begin on the project in January 2014, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
