See the Town Where Almost Everyone Is Addicted to Drugs
You won’t feel too good after watching he documentary Oxyana. This centers a small down in West Virginia that has been plagued by drug addiction. I feel sorry for the people who feel the need to hide from reality. They spend their lives swallowing, snorting and shooting crazy amounts of pain medication into themselves. Some of these abusers even have children. I don’t think that I need to mention that the children of these drug abusers are often neglected. The children hurt and turn to drug themselves.
The scariest thing is that this part of West Virginia is not the only community that has this problem. These are the people who have been hit hardest by a struggling economy, and with limited education and nowhere else to go they had no choice but to turn to an alternate and debilitating reality that will slowly suck their life away.
Oxyana is not a documentary when you learn about everyone, this is about an entire town, literally the whole thing that is addicted to drugs. This film does not preach about putting an end to drug use, this is a look at the real world, possibly even the end of the world. If this spreads, it will be the end.
The director of this film, Sean Dunne won Best New Documentary Director and i’m sure you don’t have to be told why. This documentary is not normal. Normally, they try to educate and change things but this one just opens your eyes to the reality of America. They pop in to the various trailer parks and rundown, neglected homes of those who live here, occasionally visiting with a rare sober citizen who explains through tears that he won’t leave because this is his home and these are the people he loves. “I don’t know what to do,” he spits out through sobs.
