Kiki’s Delivery Service is about a gifted girl who follows her maternal tradition to be a witch.  She has the power to fly and starts exploring at the age of 12 to find a town of her own.  Her black cat named Jiji plays the role of her faithful sidekick who goes everywhere with her.  Kiki organizes a business delivering packages and she meets all kinds of people along the way.  She becomes friends with the their who stole her broomstick.  Kiki learns a valuable lesson to always protect herself and value her talents.  This film is perfect for children.

After much rumors about whether horror-genre director Shimizu Takashi (The Grudge, Ju-on) would be the one to direct Eiko Kadono’s Kiki’s Delivery Service, Japanese newspapers Sports Nippon and Sports Hochi put these rumors at rest.  According to the publications, Takashi is in fact taking the helm of Kiki’s Delivery Service.  Fuka Koshiba is set for the starring role of Kiki.

Kiki’s Delivery Service is a novel popularized by Hayao Miyazaki’s 1989 Studio Ghibli animated version based on the series’ first novel of the same name.  Takashi’s movie will probably follow in the same footsteps from previous modifications and since Takashi is known for his horror, we’ll probably see a darker version of Kiki this time.
